I have been drinking coffee since I was in my early teens and I have to say that I do not remember exactly when or how I got started with my first cup of java. I do remember that my mom made coffee very weak, not much stronger than what one of my rinsed out cups would produce now, and my dad made coffee that was so strong, a spoon would dissolve in it. During my years in the Navy, coffee was part of our daily way of life. The story was often told that rum had been the drink of the sailor many years ago, but when coffee got popular, the drink of choice was changed, as coffee was considered a rare treat at the time. My memory of some of the coffee I drank aboard ship was not such a treat, but more of a novel twist on our daily intake. Imagine large coffee pots being washed out with cleanser and then not necessarily rinsed well before refilling with coffee. Nothing like the flavor of cleanser to perk up a cup of Navy coffee. Well, more to the present, we now enjoy coffee made in our Keurig Single Serve brewing system. Yes, it is no longer a coffee pot, but a brewing system. The great thing is, I have a wonderful tasting cup of coffee in about 60 seconds, no fuss, no mess. Quick and easy to make a second cup and I can have a different flavor for the next cup without any hassle. After all, there are many great flavors to select from.
